Blind Flange

A blind flange is a type of flange without a hole in the center, which is designed to seal off the end of a pipeline or used to remove debris from a pipeline during maintenance. It is usually made of high quality steel, such as carbon steel, alloy steel or stainless steel, to meet the needs of different working environments.

Function and application

Blocking function: the main function of blind flanges is to block the end of the pipeline to prevent the medium from leaking. In a piping system, a blind flange can be used to block off a branch or terminal when it is no longer needed.  Inspection and Maintenance: When inspecting or maintaining a piping system, a blind flange can be used to isolate the area that needs repair, making it easier to remove debris from the pipe and perform other maintenance tasks. System Isolation: In some cases, a blind flange is needed to isolate a piping system into separate sections for independent operation and testing.

Compatibility with Gaskets

Gaskets play a vital role in creating a tight, leak-free seal between flange faces. However, the choice of gasket material and design depends on the type and material of the flange. Soft gaskets made of materials such as rubber or PTFE are suitable for low-pressure applications, while metal gaskets are more suitable for high-pressure situations.

Features and Advantages

Easy to disassemble: compared with welded flanges, blind flanges are usually bolted, so they are easier to disassemble and replace.
Sealing performance: the sealing surfaces of blind flanges are carefully processed and matched, which can provide good sealing performance and prevent medium leakage.
Variety of materials: blind flanges can be manufactured with different materials according to the usage environment and media to meet different working requirements.

Installation and Maintenance

Pre-installation check: Before installing the blind flange, it is necessary to check whether its specifications and materials are compatible with the piping system, and make sure the sealing surface is flat and clean.
Correct installation: Installation is carried out according to the installation instructions or drawings to ensure that the connection between the blind flange and the pipeline is tight and firm. In the installation process, it is necessary to use suitable bolts and nuts and tighten them according to the specified torque.
Regular inspection: Regularly inspect the blind flange, including checking whether the bolts are loose and whether the sealing surface is worn or damaged. If problems are found, they should be dealt with in time to ensure its normal operation and prolong its service life.
Cleaning and maintenance: Clean the blind flange and its connecting parts regularly, remove oil, dust and other impurities on the surface to maintain good connection status and sealing performance.
